How Onesta Came to Be

Kosta, Founder of Onesta Music Group

I was a solo producer fresh to LA trying to push my music out into the world. I really wanted to bring talented artists together under a label and create something real and write killer songs like in the motown era.

I really wanted to bring talented artists together in an honest way without the cold and conniving typical music label feel. This would finally help those artists who were actually ridiculously talented but not never got noticed by record labels because they couldn’t generate enough views. These artists were just another number to these labels.

The thing is I was only making a few dollars a day, I didn’t have the platform to attract these artists, and I was still producing my own work which took - TIME. That meant I simply wasn’t able to attract and bring these talented artists together.

I didn’t want to sell out.

I didn’t want to compromise my music or sound for anyone.

This made me feel even worse because I wanted the security of being able to work with other artists on my own terms, yet had no way of doing so unless I were to sell out.

The problem was, again, that I lacked the money and time to create the record label of my dreams. I wasn’t venture capital backed like some of these big labels and I still had to pay the bills on my LA apartment.

Which meant that I had absolutely no resources to finally start moving toward my dream and vision.

Then, as if by chance, something amazing happened…

My Epiphany

It was 2020 and I was sitting in my apartment alone in deep thought.

That’s when I decided to start reaching out to my own network and started to write songs for little to nothing.

It was now crystal clear to me how to I was going to make my label well-known because those little to nothing songs and my writing started to attract some attention.

I started grinding.

As a result, I started to establish a name for myself in the music industry and released 22 songs in 2020 alone.

That’s when I realized that I was the one who was stopping myself from making my own dream record label.

And the secret to growing the label involved sweat and networking.

My Plan was to scale my networking and continue to produce songs for little to nothing.

I immediately reached out to more people and artists in my circle and made each and every one of them a song.

We didn’t stop there.

After songs were made, I reached out to my videographer friends and started to produce music videos to go with these brand new records.

I breathed and ate producing for 2 summers straight.

But there was still a problem…

Even though we were generating a buzz in the music scene, we still weren’t getting as noticed as these other labels and still didn’t have the money to compete with them.

I ended up at a party one night with key label executives and decided to get some feedback on our latest tracks.

“The intro is too long”

“The hook isn’t juicy enough”

They literally found everything they didn’t like about these tracks.

That’s when I decided to ignore what the executives had said.

I got so frustrated that I decided to drop 70+ tracks all over the internet and started to post everyday on social media to absolutely dominate the social media scene too.

We also created a full line of merchandise in order to tap into other channels of music marketing too. And to ultimately keep up with the other labels.

We now regularly drop records and music videos and are growing at a rapid pace too!

After I decided to successfully create my own label, Onesta Music Group, and start marketing it, I not only felt more confident with my own producing abilities, I am now able to attract true talented artists.

And in the end, all of this means, I’m now able to make music on my terms and spread my message to the truly talented artists.
